COMEUNITY Philosophies
-
Every ComeUnity collection begins with a timeless silhouette.
Rather than creating hundreds of new designs each season, we develop enduring forms—such as the Origami, Envelope, Bucket, Drawstring Backpack, and Daily Stash—that become part of our permanent collection. Each limited-edition release then reinterprets these signature silhouettes through new materials, colors, artist collaborations, embroidery, prints, and craftsmanship.
This philosophy allows every edition to tell a new story while remaining unmistakably ComeUnity.
Our pricing reflects far more than raw materials. It represents craftsmanship, production time, limited quantities, artistic collaboration, and a commitment to longevity. We design products to be used for years, to age beautifully, to be repaired instead of replaced, and ultimately to be gifted, collected, and passed down across generations.
We aren’t chasing trends or disposable fashion. We’re building a lasting collection of modern artifacts— pieces that become more meaningful with time.
-
ComeUnity isn’t built on the traditional fashion production model.
Much of today’s fashion industry was made possible by industrialized manufacturing, synthetic materials, and chemical processing that dramatically reduced production times. Polyester, nylon, PU coatings, chrome tanning, and synthetic dyes allow products to be produced quickly and at enormous scale.
Our approach is fundamentally different.
As a product development and material innovation company, every collection begins with research, experimentation, and problem solving before production ever begins. Sometimes that means developing new material applications. Other times it means inventing new product features or improving existing ones.
For example, after early prototypes were stolen, we began developing future travel pieces with cut-resistant outer shells, integrated tracker compatibility, and RFID protection. As our artist collaborations evolved, we also began developing our own authentication system to preserve provenance and document each limited-edition piece. Our work with mulberry paper leather similarly began as years of material exploration, testing, and product development before becoming part of our collections.
Once a design is ready, manufacturing follows the same philosophy.
Vegetable-tanned leather cannot be rushed. While chrome tanning may take about a day, traditional vegetable tanning typically requires several weeks as hides are slowly transformed using natural plant tannins. Natural and specialty colors are produced in batches, and many of our materials require skilled, hands-on craftsmanship. Production schedules are determined by material readiness and craftsmanship—not simply factory capacity.
Rather than optimizing for speed, we optimize for innovation, quality, and longevity. We believe the products worth owning for decades are rarely the ones made the fastest.
-
Our collections combine innovative design with carefully selected materials.
Each material is selected for strategic roles in the object: (Including but not limited to)
Recycled Premium denim for familiar resilience
Premium wool
lotus silk for tactile depth
Vegetable-tanned Full-grain Italian leather for structure and aging
Mulberry paper leather for lightness, waterproof, weather resistance and cleanable properties
-
Our collections don’t begin with a sketch. They begin with materials.
We believe the next generation of luxury will be defined not only by design, but by material innovation. That’s why we work directly with inventors, researchers, manufacturers, and artisans to help bring the materials of tomorrow into everyday life.
Some of the materials we use were created specifically to challenge conventional manufacturing. Others have existed for centuries and deserve a place in modern luxury.
Every material becomes part of the collection not simply because it’s sustainable, but because it helps solve a larger challenge: how do we create products that are better for the people who use them, better for the people who make them, and better for the planet— without compromising craftsmanship or performance?
MATERIALS & CRAFT
-
Vegetable-tanned Italian Leather is preserved with the use of natural organic tannins from tree bark and leaves rather than the typical harsh synthetic chemicals used in Leather tanning. This is how your silhouettes get their superior and natural Patina.
Learn about Leather Chrome Tanning
Mineral chromium is often used in Chrome tanning. It is a heavy metal and as such is toxic to the environment as well as to the people processing it.
The general Vegetable tanning process takes about 30-60 days (compared with 1–2 days for chrome-tanning). This natural leather tanning process leaves the leather with unique variations in shade and color.
We prefer vegetable-tannged for its distinctive “leather” aroma, rather than the typical chemical odor of chromium-tanned goods. The fragrance is sweet, woody, and rich.
While this method of tanning does use quite a bit of water, it does not pollute the environment the way the chromium-based leather tanning process does. There is also less machinery, and so less electricity, involved with the vegetable tanning process.
Amazingly, it only represents less than 10% of global leather production. However is a great alternative for longevity, and upgraded through our production.

Mulberry paper leather is a lightweight, reinforced material made from mulberry-based paper and finished for use in accessories and everyday objects. Despite its name, it contains no animal leather.
We manufacture and select it for its distinctive texture, low weight style. As well as dependable, cleanable surface, and resistance to everyday weather and wear. Its structured flexibility allows it to protect and support the objects you carry without the bulk of conventional leather.
-
Deadstock refers to unused, existing material that remains from previous production, excess inventory, cancelled orders, discontinued colors, or limited manufacturing runs. The material has not necessarily been previously worn or used; simply already exists and is available in a finite quantity.
Reclaimed material refers to material recovered from a production stream or another source before it would otherwise be discarded. We may use reclaimed leather, or other suitable components in labels, details, and limited editions.
Working with these materials allows us to give existing resources a considered new purpose while creating editions that may be difficult to reproduce exactly. Availability, grain, tone, texture, and finish can vary, making those differences part of the individual character of the piece.
When deadstock or reclaimed material is used, the relevant product page identifies it. These terms describe the material’s source. Not automatically its quality, environmental impact, or certification.

Designed to be carried forward, each piece is made to develop character over time. Thoughtful care will help preserve its shape, finish, and function for years to come.
Avoid prolonged contact with cosmetics, perfume, oils, alcohol, and other chemical substances, as they may stain the surface or cause color transfer. Protect your piece from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture.
Our Materials:
Italian Vegetable-Tanned Leather
Our top-grain Italian vegetable-tanned leather is designed to age beautifully, developing a unique patina with time and use.
If the leather becomes wet, blot moisture immediately with a clean, soft, light-colored cloth. Do not rub. Allow it to air dry naturally away from direct heat. Avoid soaps, solvents, alcohol, and abrasive cleaners.
Mulberry Paper Leather
Clean the lining with a soft, lightly dampened cloth and allow it to air dry naturally. For most stains, gently clean with a soft toothbrush, lukewarm water, and a small amount of mild hand soap. Allow the material to air dry completely.
Denim & Cotton
For products with a denim exterior, gentle hand washing or machine washing should only be considered when absolutely necessary. Keep the mulberry paper leather lining turned inside the bag during washing, use cold or lukewarm water with a mild detergent, and allow the product to air dry naturally. Do not tumble dry.
Lotus Silk
Lotus silk is a delicate natural fiber. Gently hand wash in cool or lukewarm water using a mild detergent. Do not bleach, wring, or tumble dry. Reshape while damp and lay flat or hang to air dry away from direct sunlight.
For structured garments or products with multiple materials, we recommend spot cleaning or consulting a professional cleaner.
Storage
Store your piece in a cool, dry place, preferably inside its dust bag and without heavy objects placed on top. For significant stains, damage, or restoration, we recommend consulting a professional leather or textile care specialist.
